The Medicine Buddha is the Buddha of healing and it is considered highly beneficial to meditate on his image and chant his mantra with the desire to alleviate suffering and attain enlightenment.

As an enlightened being, the Medicine Buddha has compassion for all living beings and helps protect them from physical and mental illnesses, as well as other dangers and obstacles. He also helps us to eradicate the three poisons - attachment, hatred and ignorance - which, according to Buddhist teaching, are the source of all sickness and danger. He is the `Buddha doctor', the embodiment of the collective healing power of all the Buddha's and possesses the ability to see the true cause of all afflictions whether physical, psychological or spiritual.
