 Gendai Reiki is one of the more
interesting methods of Reiki in Japan. It's originator, Mr. Hiroshi
Doi (Doi-sensei to his
students) , is a member
of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai
(the original
Reiki society) in Japan,
and author of the book Iyashino Gendai Reiki-ho
(Modern Reiki Method For Healing).
His school of Reiki is called Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai. "Ho"
means method or technique, and "Gendai" means modern. So Gendai
Reiki Ho means Modern Reiki Method. It is mainly a Japanese style of
Reiki.
Since 2001 Doi-sensei has been
teaching
Gendai Reiki master level outside Japan as
part of the annual Usui Reiki Ryoho International conferences (held
in Vancouver, Toronto, Kyoto, Madrid, Denmark).
However Doi-sensei seems to be no longer offering
his training outside Japan.
Note that Japanese teachers place
more emphasis on their Reiki energy lineage, than on their teaching
or training lineage.
Having studied with Richard
Rivard of Vancouver, B.C., Canada who has sponsored his workshops in Canada
(URRI 1999 and URRI 2002) I feel I can
provide you with a good perspective on the Gendai Reiki
approach because I use Mr. Rivard's manual and teaching methods.
Mr Rivard is one of the people who is most familiar with this method
outside of Japan. The Gendai Reiki manual (with
photos) is a much improved version and greatly
assists the student to get a better and wider understudying of this
approach. With my additional training from Mr. Rivard in the URR Gakkai style of
teaching, I can offer a wider
scope on the Gakkai aspects of the Gendai Reiki training.
Gendai Reiki is based mainly on the
methods used in the original Reiki society
(Usui
Reiki Ryoho Gakkai) - including some of the older techniques
no longer taught. Also, Doi-sensei adds in other concepts and
methods from other forms of Japanese Reiki, Western Reiki and other
healing disciplines he has learned. He likes to be specific about
what is original Reiki, and what is not, so the student doesn't get
confused. Much of the philosophical concepts in the material are
not part of Western Reiki and may interest those who already have
Reiki training. Gendai Reiki
is presented more as a spiritual practice which has healing effects
as an adjunct to the practice rather than simply a healing modality
as is the case with most Reiki training.
Certified
Gendai Reiki Ho Shihans (teachers)
teach Gendai Reiki
in 4 levels just as does Doi-sensei, and they use translations of his original material. The
4 levels are Shoden, Okuden, Shinpiden and Gokuikaiden (the Master level).
As a bonus to the Gendai Reiki Ho Shihan
(Master) class, we add extra teachings which explain the
concepts Mr. Doi presented at the URRI conferences, as well as a segment on the special lecture he
gave on
Gendai Reiju Methods
which are simple attunement (empowerment)
techniques he teaches at the URRI conferences.
Typically in the original Gendai
Reiki Ho Shihan class the student is offered only the final
"Integrated Attunement." In my class, I also add in the attunements
to each of the first 3 levels of training as well, giving the
student a more complete experience of this system.
Since Mr. Doi's material continues
to be improved/revised, I keep my own students up to date on changes
as I learn of them. Rick Rivard shares information on how and
what we teach with one of Doi-sensei's key students
in Japan so that she can report the content and procedures we follow
to Doi-sensei if necessary, including the steps we take for our
distant classes (see Gendai-Ki Reiki).
Note that enrollment in my
Gendai Reiki Ho Shihan class is limited to those who have
already received certification in at least a Reiki 3/Master class
with me or another Reiki teacher. The class is available only in a
live format with me. (see below for the distant class format -

This workshop is
an unparalleled opportunity to experience and learn the traditional Reiki
techniques which are often not available in the Western World and includes the
URR technique s referenced above. All participants receive 2 very extensive
manuals,

Gendai-Ki
Reiki
If a student chooses to study this
program at home and not in a live class, then the transmission of
the Gendai Reiki energy will be achieved via distant attunements,
arranged at a suitable time with me, and performed as if you and
I are in the same room, at the same time. In 1998, well before
his Gendai training, Rick Rivard exchanged distant attunements with Doi-sensei
and his friend Tanaka-san, so they were able to experience Distant
Attunement with Rick.
However, since
distant attunements are currently not taught as a normal part of
Gendai Reiki Ho, in order to differentiate this slight change
we simply call the distant Gendai Reiki Ho classes by the name of
Gendai-Ki Reiki. While the
material, attunements and exercises are EXACTLY the same as my
Gendai Reiki
Ho, the student will be certified as a Gendai-Ki Reiki Shihan.
As above, my intended audience for this class will be experienced
Reiki Masters only, just as I received the teaching from Doi-sensei.
My live classes will continue to be certified as
Gendai Reiki Ho.
Aside from the
distant attunement, the rest of the class is the same and may
actually involve more detail and interaction than the live class. I
have found that distant students tend to spend more time with the
material (this is not possible in a live class) and they ask more
questions and share much more feedback. In this way, the distant
class tends to be superior to the live class, even when compared to
the original classes I took which was a live class. I have
re-taken the class via distant method from Mr. Rivard as well. Often students find the distant
attunements to be more intense as well.
A Gendai-Ki Shihan
is allowed to teach this material in a live or distant process,
but until he or she receives an in-person Gendai Reiki master
attunement, it is best that they NOT use the term Gendai
Reiki Ho for their live or distant training, in order to
avoid confusion. Note that there are many Gendai Reiki Ho Shihan
who are
willing to give the final in-person attunement to my Gendai-Ki
Reiki Shihan for a small exchange if you live in their area or can
travel to them. Or, you can meet with me in person at a later date
and receive this from me. In either case, I will re-certify you at
no extra charge.

GENDAI REIKI
Sessions are among the most powerful sessions available and due to the
connection of GENDAI Reiki with traditional Japanese techniques are among the
most "pure" of the various Reiki modalities available. Sessions are offered for any number
of issues and many people who have received sessions report that they
heard/felt/saw Ancient Beings and experienced highly altered states during the sessions.
It is not at all unusual for people to feel and see Usui Sensei during a Gendai
Reiki Session. If you are interested in very traditional Japanese Reiki
and techniques which date to the time Usui Sensei (which are no longer taught
other than in Gendai Reiki) these sessions
provide the ultimate experience.
Sessions can be done
either live or over distance. Live sessions are by appointment ONLY and
are conducted at my office in Grand Junction, CO. Call 281-549-2270 for
details. Remote/distance sessions occur at a time that is mutually convenient
and are arranged via email after you pay for the session (usually within a 24
hour period).
GENDAI REIKI can
be from 30 to 90 minutes depending on your needs. Your investment for an

During a remote session it
is advisable for you to be sitting or laying down in a quiet area with
telephone, TV, radio, etc. shut off and with those with whom you may live
understanding that you don't want to be disturbed for the time set aside for the
session. I contact you via your energy in the Etheric Realm and am a
conduit for the powerful energy of GENDAI REIKI to flow into your body/being.
Sessions can be issue specific or can be provided for a sense of overall well
being to assist your body in doing what it does best which is HEAL. GENDAI
